Meet the trainer behind Inspired Equine

Hannah is a BHS Stage 3 Dressage Coach, an Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Trainer (one of only three in Scotland) and an APEC Centre 10 Foundation Coach (Applied Psychology for Equestrian Coaches).

My journey with horses

I have always loved horses, starting with weekly riding lessons as a child before eventually getting my own horse. This led me to work in riding schools as an instructor. I spent three years working abroad, competing in Dressage and One Day Events, before returning to Scotland in 2012 to continue my equestrian career.

Meeting J, my old horse, was a pivotal moment. He was a complicated character who taught me the importance of groundwork methods and horse psychology. I realised there was a significant gap in the equine industry. While many focus on disciplines like dressage or jumping, there's often a lack of understanding of how horses truly think and how we can work with them to foster happier horses and stronger partnerships. This realisation shaped my approach and led to the creation of Inspired Equine.

Our core belief: Listening to every horse's story

At Inspired Equine, our core belief is that every horse has a story worth listening to.

Horses are constantly communicating, and as their owners and carers, it is our responsibility and privilege to understand what they are telling us. By listening -really listening- we build partnerships founded on trust and effective communication.

We champion ethical, force-free training methods to help horses overcome behavioural challenges in a way that is fair and lasting. Our approach combines a strong foundation in equine psychology, including training with Kelly Marks and Intelligent Horsemanship, informing our sensitive use of pressure and release, alongside the transformative benefits of positive, reward-based training.

Every horse is an individual, and our aim is always to find the approach that allows them to feel safe, understood, and able to thrive.

What makes Inspired Equine unique?

What truly sets Inspired Equine apart is our commitment to individualised training. We recognise that every horse and human partnership is unique, requiring a slightly different style and approach. My endeavour is to work with each partnership's strengths, rather than focusing on their weaknesses.

As a BHS Stage 3 Dressage Coach, an Intelligent Horsemanship Recommended Trainer, and a Centre 10 APEC Foundation Coach, I bring a wealth of expertise to my freelance riding lessons and behavioural training. I flexibly apply either positive or negative reinforcement, depending on what best suits the specific situation and the individual needs of the horse. I am always willing to adapt my style if it's not yielding the best results, ensuring the most effective and positive outcome for both horse and owner.

"Inspired Equine transformed my relationship with my horse. The tailored approach and understanding of equine psychology are truly exceptional."
